Author Batt Humphreys Will Speak and Sign His Book, Dead Weight
In one of America’s most beautiful cities, an ugly crime is committed when a Jewish merchant is murdered. A black man stands accused and the white populace is primed for a hanging. Dead Weight, the author’s first novel and based on a true story, is a legal thriller, torn from the headlines and true events of one hundred years ago in Charleston, SC. The novel chronicles the 1910 trial, conviction and execution of Nealy Duncan.
Batt Humphreys spent 15 years at CBS News in New York as a senior producer and has managed the coverage of many of the events that have shaped lives over the past quarter century. He has petitioned the governor to pardon Duncan as “. . . a chance to correct an injustice and to restore honor. . .”
