2012 National History Day in South Carolina

National History Day is a highly regarded academic contest for students in grades 4-12 that encourages critical thinking, research skills, oral and written communication skills, and self-esteem. Students research and develop topics related to an annual theme and present their conclusions in exhibits, performances, documentaries, or historical papers. In South Carolina, National History Day is sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History and supported by SC Humanities.

More than 9,000 South Carolina students participated in National History Day in South Carolina in 2012. Students participated in school-level and regional-level competitions prior to advancing to the South Carolina State Competition which will take place Saturday, April 28th, 2012. Several hundred students, parents, and teachers will converge on the South Carolina Department of Archives and History building in Columbia to compete to appear at the National History Day competition on June 10 – 14, 2012 in College Park, Maryland.
