2014 One Book, One Columbia

One Book, One Columbia is a city-wide reading event that connects the Midlands community by encouraging residents to read the same book at the same time. The 2014 One Book, One Columbia book selection is My Reading Life by Pat Conroy, and he will appear at a closing author event at the Township Auditorium on February 27, 2014. SC Humanities supported this project with a Mini Grant in December 2013.

The 2014 One Book, One Columbia is the fourth annual city-wide book event. Pat Conroy’s My Reading Life was selected for 2014. My Reading Life acknowledges how books have shaped Conroy’s life and celebrates the profound effect that books and reading have had on his journey. Previous One Book, One Columbia reading selections have included Having Our Say: The Delaney Sisters’ First 100 Years by Sarah L. Delaney (2011), Saints at the River by Ron Rash (2012), and The Dry Grass of August by Anna Jean Mayhew (2013).

Pat Conroy - My Reading LifeIn addition to the closing program featuring Pat Conroy speaking and signing books on February 27, a diverse series of events will take place throughout February 2014, including lectures highlighting various themes from Conroy’s works, discussions about Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, and a special film screening of The Great Santini.

To participate, Midlands residents can pick up a copy of My Reading Life at any Richland Library location or purchase one from a number of participating Columbia-area bookstores.
