Between the Waters

A public launch event for the website Between the Waters will take place on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University. Between the Waters is an interactive website that showcases the cultural history of Hobcaw Barony, a 16,000 acre historical site in Georgetown County. The project is a multi-year collaborative effort between SCETV, the Belle W. Baruch Foundation, and the Georgetown County Digital Library that received support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and South Carolina Humanities.

The Between the Waters website gives visitors the opportunity to have a virtual tour of Hobcaw Barony, including the slave dwellings, grand houses, roads, and rice canals. The website includes videos, photographs, and oral histories from former residents and relatives, among other features.

The launch of the website will be promoted at several special events in September, including the main launch at Coastal Carolina University on September 12, which is free and open to the public. Members of the Between the Waters team will also present at the Slave Dwelling Conference in Columbia on September 20 and at the Avery Research Center in Charleston on September 21.

More information about the project can be found at www.makinghistorybtw.com or www.facebook.com/scetvbetweenthewaters/.
