The 6th annual Blackville Music and Art Festival will take place on May 19 -20 in downtown Blackville in Barnwell County and will include a parade, live performances, arts and craft gallery, and several public lectures by scholars. SC Humanities supported this program with a Mini Grant in April 2017.
The goal of the Blackville Music and Arts Festival is to introduce the people of Blackville and surrounding areas to different art forms, culture, and history. In 2017, there will be humanities content for the first time, including an interactive presentation by scholar and historical re-enactor Donald West in character with the 54th Massachusetts regiment. Damon Fordham of Charleston Southern University will give a presentation on the Reconstruction period and its connection to the people of Blackville.

The mission of SC Humanities is to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of all South Carolinians. Established in 1973, this 501(c) 3 organization is governed by a volunteer 22-member Board of Directors comprised of community leaders from throughout the state. It presents and/or supports literary initiatives, lectures, exhibits, festivals, publications, oral history projects, videos and other humanities-based experiences that directly or indirectly reach more than 250,000 citizens annually.
