Chester County Historical Society Continues to Offer Lunch and Learn Programs

The Chester County Historical Society will digitize selections from the Henry Orion Nichols photograph collection, a compilation of many thousands of photographs taken over a 72-year span in Chester, SC. The Chester County Historical Society will use the images as a basis for a series of public "Lunch and Learn" programs at the Chester County Public Library in through the fall of 2011. SC Humanities supported this program through a Major Grant in September 2010.

Henry Orion Nichols spent most of his life in Chester, SC and took thousands of pictures of the town and county, including images of commercial buildings, farm life, schools, church groups, sporting events, and more. The images vividly depict how Chester changed in the 20th century. The Chester County Historical Society will preserve and share these images with a wider audience by digitizing them and making them available to the public at their facility and through the South Carolina Memory Project.

In addition to the digitization project, the Chester County Historical Society will be hosting a series of "Lunch and Learn" programs using the Henry Orion Nichols collection at the Chester County Public Library. The events will take place monthly, and attendees are welcome to bring bagged lunches or can reserve a boxed lunch for $5 by calling 803-385-2332 by the Monday before the event.
