Darlington County Hosts Preservation Workshop

The Darlington County Historical Commission will present a public workshop titled “Identifying, Documenting, and Preserving Documents, Photographs, and Memorabilia” on March 13, 2012 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Hartsville. The workshop will be led by Dr. Bobby Donaldson of the University of South Carolina. SC Humanities supported this program with a Mini Grant in February 2012.

The Darlington County Historical Commission recognized a need in their community for a guided tutorial on historic preservation. Many interesting photographs and papers are destroyed every year. On March 13, Dr. Donaldson will conduct a lecture focused on select topics about local history and historic preservation, and participants will have an opportunity to showcase their items and learn about their historical value.

The workshop will be held at the Lawton Park Pavilion (716 Prestwood Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550) on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring photographs and memorabilia that are housed in their homes, churches, schools, or businesses.
