The Columbia Museum of Art will create and provide educator tools and programs based on American Impressionism themes for South Carolina K-12 educators to complement the exhibit Charles Courtney Curran: Seeking the Ideal which will be on display from February 20 – May 17, 2015. An “Evening for Educators” will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., and an Educator Workshop will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2015. SC Humanities supported these educational efforts with a Mini Grant in January 2015.
The exhibit Charles Courtney Curran: Seeking the Ideal will bring together 58 Curran masterpieces and will be on display from February 20 – May 17, 2015 at the Columbia Museum of Art. Curran is among the select group of artists who brought Impressionism to America.
The exhibition will offer the opportunity for educators from across South Carolina to explore many subjects with their students including English Language Arts, American history, social studies, science, and visual arts. Teacher lesson plans will be created and distributed by the Columbia Museum of Art and will be made available online. The “Evening for Educators” on Wednesday, February 18 will give teachers the opportunity to preview the exhibit and enjoy a gallery talk while obtaining information and curriculums to take back to the classroom. The Educator Workshop on Saturday, April 18 is designed for small groups for an in-depth experience.
More information about these educator tools and programs can be found on the Columbia Museum of Art’s website at: http://columbiamuseum.org/learn/educators.
