Grand American Vision Lecture Series

The Columbia Museum of Art will present a series of lectures and programs to accompany the display of the exhibit Nature and the Grand American Vision: Masterpieces of the Hudson River School Painters, on display from November 19, 2011 – April 1, 2012. Thirteen lectures are planned featuring both local and national scholars. SC Humanities supported this program through a Major Grant in September 2011.

Nature and the Grand American Vision explores the evolution of the Hudson River School of art through four thematic sections. The Hudson River School was a group of artists and writers in the nineteenth century who imagined the American landscape as a source of spiritual renewal and as part of the young country’s identity. The exhibit is organized by the New-York Historical Society.
