Voice, Vision, and Re-Vision with Poet Buddy Wakefield

Wits End Poetry will present a series of programs featuring noted performance poet Buddy Wakefield on February 26 and February 27, 2015 in Greenville, SC. The two-day event will include a performance followed by a Q&A session, a reception, a school visit, and a workshop/panel. Buddy Wakefield is a three-time world champion spoken word artist. SC Humanities supported this program with a Mini Grant in January 2015.

On Thursday, February 26, Buddy Wakefield will give a performance at the Independent Ale House in Greenville, SC at 8:30 p.m. A reception will precede the performance, and a Q&A and book signing will follow it. Additionally, Buddy Wakefield will perform for the eighth grade of Northwest Middle School (over 250 students) on Friday, February 27 as well as participating in a panel discussion and workshop for up to 30 people on the evening of Friday, February 27 at the Forest Coffee House in Travelers Rest. These events are ticketed.

Buddy Wakefield is a three-time world champion spoken word artist and has been featured on NPR, the BBC, HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, and ABC Radio National. He was most recently signed to Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. Wakefield’s performance poetry acts as a vehicle through which we can make sense of our world and acts as a jumping off point for discussions related to ethics, women’s studies, gay and lesbian studies, and American studies.

Wits End Poetry is working to make poetry as accessible to people in the Upstate of South Carolina as it is to people living in New York City, Atlanta, and Chicago.
