The 20th Annual Heritage Days at the Depot will be held October 3 – 5, 2024 in historic Belton, SC. A signature event for the Belton Area Museum Association, Heritage Days at the Depot exists to encourage, promote, conserve, and honor the traditional art forms and heritage skills that make our state distinct. SC Humanities supported this program with a Mini Grant.
The event feature 13 heritage skills artisans and historical interpreters giving demonstrations and presentations about historical skills like Native American pine needle basketry, colonial lifestyles, West-African and Native American food history and storytelling, corn husk doll making, blacksmith, broom making, log cabin building, bee keeping, and more. More than 600 4th and 5th grade students from Anderson County School District 2 will attend on the Thursday of the event, and homeschool students are invited to participate on Friday. On Saturday, the Heritage Days at the Depot is part of Belton’s Standpipe Heritage and Arts Festival, which attracts around 6,000 attendees.
Belton Area Museum Association says, “History becomes a tangible and memorable experience as visitors gain first-hand knowledge through interactive presentations.”
The hours for the public day on Saturday, October 5 are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Belton Depot (100 North Main St., Belton, SC 29627). The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
