A Charles Dickens Christmas

The Chesterfield County Library in collaboration with the Town of Cheraw, the Cheraw Arts Commission and River’s Edge Restaurant, will be hosting a series of events based on Charles Dickens’ famous novel A Christmas Carol on December 8, 2012 in Cheraw as part of Cheraw’s annual Christmas fest. SC Humanities helped support this project with a Mini Grant in October 2012.

The events will kick off with an exciting and family-friendly program complete with period costumes, games, refreshments, and interactive drama on December 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Matheson Library in Cheraw.  Tim Lowry, guest storyteller, will lead the audience in a lively game of charades, teach them how to play period games and learn a dance as he brings the classic story, A Christmas Carol, to life. This event is free and to the public.

Later, a four course Dinner Theatre event will be hosted at River’s Edge Restaurant and will feature readings from A Christmas Carol with Tim Lowry performing in character as Charles Dickens himself. He will engage the audience in the various monologues and readings as they eventually find themselves participating and reliving the story as it might have happened in the 19th Century. Tickets, at $25.00 per person, can be purchased at the Matheson Library, River’s Edge Restaurant, Cheraw Arts Commission, or The Town of Cheraw office.  Call 843.623.6720 for more information about programs and tickets.
