Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival

The Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival is an annual event taking place on Hilton Head Island as part of South Carolina Archaeology Month. The third annual festival is scheduled for October 22 – 24, 2015 and will feature 18 films, including a track about South Carolina heritage. SC Humanities supported this project with a Mini Grant in September 2015.

The purpose of the Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival is to make knowledge of past civilizations better understood to people from different backgrounds. The festival also has a South Carolina heritage track intended to trigger the interest of South Carolinian film-makers to apply their art to state history.

The full schedule of films that will be screened is available on the festival website: http://www.arkhaiosfilmfestival.org/arkhaios-2015.html. In addition to supporting the 2015 festival, SC Humanities also supported three of the films that will be screened this year: Cotton Road; The Inevitable Evolution of Fort Frederick; and Down on Bull Street.

The mission of SC Humanities is to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of all South Carolinians. Established in 1973, this 501(c) 3 organization is governed by a volunteer 23-member Board of Directors comprised of community leaders from throughout the state.  It presents and/or supports literary initiatives, lectures, exhibits, festivals, publications, oral history projects, videos and other humanities-based experiences that directly or indirectly reach more than 250,000 citizens annually.
