Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival

The first annual Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival will be presented on Hilton Head Island on October 24 – 26, 2013. Award-winning documentaries on South Carolina history, cultural heritage, and archaeology will be introduced by filmmakers and scholars and screened at the Coligny Theatre. The festival is free and open to the public. SC Humanities supported this event through an August 2013 Mini Grant.

The majority of the selected films that will be shown at this inaugural event are winners of The Archaeology Channel’s 2013 festival. In future years, the list of films will be established by a selection committee, and a jury will award prizes. The selected films will be presented over three days, October 24 – 26, 2013, from 1:20 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Coligny Theatre (1 North Forest Beach Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC).

The Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival is affiliated with the Coastal Discovery Museum of Hilton Head and the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of South Carolina.

The mission of SC Humanities is to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of all South Carolinians. SC Humanities programs and initiatives are balanced, reflecting sensitivity to the diversity of ideas, encourage open dialogue, demonstrate integrity, and are ethical in operations.
