Grants Writing Workshop for Community Cultural Projects

SC Humanities, in partnership with Newberry Opera House, South Carolina Arts Commission, and South Carolina Department of Archives and History, is hosting a FREE grants writing workshop, and staff and volunteers of all South Carolina cultural organizations and nonprofit agencies are invited to attend. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, 9:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Newberry Opera House in Newberry, SC.

Staff, officers, and Board members of SC Humanities, South Carolina Arts Commission, and South Carolina Department of Archives and Historywill lead the workshop, which will include a session on general grants writing techniques, an overview of local and federal funding opportunities for cultural projects, and time for questions and networking. This workshop offers a unique learning opportunity for cultural organizations of all sizes and provides a chance for partnership building between local organizations with similar missions.

Dr. Randy Akers, Executive Director of SC Humanities, said: "SC Humanities is fortunate that it still has grant monies available for quality community-based public humanities programs. We know that resources are tight, and we must partner with other organizations of similar mission in order to use our funds to fullest potential. Workshops like the one in Newberry are intended to provide citizens with access to funding sources, information, and resources that will give them a chance to raise necessary funds."

Though the workshop is free and open to the public, pre-registration is required.
