The Southern Guitar Festival will present a unique program on Mexican Guitar Building on Friday, June 8, 2018. The internationally-recognized Mexican guitar ensemble Octeto Sicaru will educate audiences on basic classical guitar building techniques and demonstrate how guitar has evolved over the last hundred years. SC Humanities supported this program with a Mini Grant.
The lecture-demonstration by Octeto Sicaru will take place on Friday, June 8 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a unique concert program featuring such composers as Olivier Bensa, Patrick Roux, Roland Dyens, Julio Cesar Oliva, and Graham Reynolds at 4:00 p.m.. The intent of the program is to highlight the multicultural diversity of guitar making and to educate the community on guitar craftmanship. The artists from the Octeto Sicaru ensemble will discuss works by early 20th century Mexican luthiers and physically demonstrate every instrument in the group.
