13th Annual Columbia Jewish Film Festival

The Katie and Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center will present the 13th Annual Columbia Jewish Film Festival on February 9 – 14, 2013 at the Nickelodeon Theatre featuring 8 films and documentaries. The film screenings for Freedom Writers and Kaddish for a Friend will be followed by scholar-led educational forums. SC Humanities supported the film festival with a Mini Grant in December 2012.

The Columbia Jewish Film Festival will present 8 diverse films that promote awareness of the Jewish experience around the world, from Israel to Mexico, Germany to the United States. Two films will include scholarly interpretation through educational panels following the screenings. Freedom Writers (2007) stars Hilary Swank as a teacher who inspires her at-risk students to learn tolerance and pursue their education. Kaddish for a Friend tells the story of a Russian Jewish WWII veteran and a Palestinian boy who form an unlikely friendship in Germany.

The full schedule of film screenings is below, and the festival will take place at the Nickelodeon Theatre at 1607 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Tickets are available from the Jewish Community Center or from the Nickelodeon Theatre and can be purchased online or at the door. More information and ticketing information can be found on the event website: http://www.columbiajewishfilmfestival.com/home.html.
