Japanese Film Fest

The Belton Area Museum Association will present a free Japanese Film Festival bi-weekly in February and March 2014 as part of the Anderson County 2014 International Festival. Four famous Japanese movies will be screened and followed by interactive discussions with humanities scholars. SC Humanities supported the Japanese Film Festival with a Mini Grant in September 2013.

The theme and title of Anderson County’s 2014 International Festival is “Youkoso,” which means “welcome” in Japanese. Youkoso will celebrate the Japanese people, companies, and cultural organizations that have made the upstate their home over the last 70 years. Other events will include two Japanese art exhibits, a Japanese Tea Ceremony, a children’s art day with origami and calligraphy lessons, and much more.

The Belton Area Museum Association will contribute to the festivities with a four-part film and lecture series featuring four famous Japanese films, The Tokyo Story, Godzilla, Seven Samurai, and Spirited Away. Two excellent scholars will provide humanities content by discussing topics such as traditional and modern Japanese culture, Japanese filmmaking techniques, and Japanese heritage.  Dr. David Larson is a Professor of Theatre who has been at Anderson University since 1991, and Dr. Wayne Cox has been a Professor of English at Anderson University since 1992.
