Joe Stukes History Series

The Friends of the Florence County Public Library will present the annual Joe Stukes History Series starting on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Dr. Joseph Stukes will present four Chautauqua-style living history presentations of famous historical figures in the Spring and Fall of 2010 at the Florence County Public Library in Florence, SC. SC Humanities supported this project through a Major Grant in February 2010.

Stukes will present the follow presentations:

Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – "Thomas Jefferson: I Remember Buying Louisiana"

Thursday, April 8, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – "Martin Luther King: Others Call it the Black Revolution"

Thursday, September 26, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – "Theodore Roosevelt: That Panama Canal Business"

Tuesday, October 8, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. – "James K. Polk: Why We Fought the Mexican War"

Dr. Joseph Taylor Stukes has taught at Darlington School for Boys, Presbyterian Junior College, Lander University, Erkskine College, and, from 1974 – 1996 was a professor and Chair of the Francis Marion History Department.
