Project Impact in Newberry County

The Newberry County Chamber of Commerce will present two community forums in Newberry County in March and April 2011. “Project Impact” is a civic dialogue project that intends to honor Newberry’s past while planning for a more productive future.  A forum on the topic of Education and Society will take place on March 22, 2011 at Piedmont Technical College, and a forum on Economics will take place on April 5, 2011 at the Prosperity Civic Center. SC Humanities supported this project through two Major Grants in September 2010 and February 2011.

The goal of Project Impact is to move Newberry County forward through community engagement, dialogue, leadership development, and collaboration. Each forum will start with a look back at Newberry’s rich history, led by local historian and humanities scholar Earnest Shealy. Chuck Ewart, a nationally-recognized facilitator, will then lead the meeting in a discussion of how to improve life and increase citizen engagement in Newberry County. Three topics were selected for discussion: Education, Society, and Economics.
