Sounds of America Exhibit

The Sigal Music Museum will open its newest exhibit Sounds of America on Friday, July 8, 2022, and it will be on display through the end of March 2023. The exhibit offers a retrospective on American forms of music like blues, jazz, ragtime, and gospel. SC Humanities helped fund this exhibit with a Major Grant.

Sounds of America will uncover stories from the founding of America to modern day, displaying a cross-section of genres, artists, and developing technologies for listening to and recording music. Features include the following: the first piano sold in America (1775); Josh White’s 1943 Martin guitar; a recreation of John H. Williams Music Store (Greenville, 1905); an interactive recording studio exhibit; interactive listening stations; and more.

The exhibit will kick off with a special concert on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The event will take place on the lawn in front of the museum, located at 516 Buncombe St. on Heritage Green. Performers include Mac Arnold (acoustic), Tuba Gin, and visiting artist Josh White Jr. (the exhibit features the 1943 Martin guitar that belonged to his father, Greenville native Josh White). Those attending the concert will be able to see the exhibit for a special rate of $5.00. A food truck will also be on property.
