SC Humanities is pleased to announce an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students who are majoring in or pursuing a masters degree in a humanities discipline. Through the SC Humanities Student Scholarships, SC Humanities seeks to encourage students to explore humanities fields as they pursue their academic careers. In FY2025, the amount of the undergraduate and graduate scholarships has been raised to $3,000. Previously, the scholarship was $1,500 for undergraduates and $2,000 for graduate students.
SC Humanities offers an annual scholarship for one undergraduate and one graduate student who have declared a major or are enrolled in a graduate degree program in the humanities. The humanities include history, philosophy and ethics, literature, linguistics, languages, jurisprudence, cultural anthropology, archaeology, comparative religions, art history and/or criticism, folklore, or interdisciplinary scholarship in these areas.
Scholarships are paid in a lump sum as a stipend to the student. A scholarship recipient may utilize the funds toward tuition; the purchase of books, research materials, specialty software, or supplies; travel for research or presentations; or other purposes in the pursuit of a humanities major, as determined by consultation with the faculty mentor/advisor.
The SC Humanities Scholarship is a re-envisioning of the former Student Research Fellowship, which was offered from 2013 – 2019 and focused on supporting undergraduate students with the financial costs of an independent research project. The SC Humanities Scholarship offers more flexibility in how awarded funds are used, looking to support the whole student experience rather than a specific, discrete project. The revised scholarship opportunity was first offered in 2021. Read about our 2022 scholarship recipients, 2023 scholarship recipients, and 2024 scholarship recipients.
The Undergraduate Student Scholarship deadline is Friday, January 17, 2025. The Graduate Student Scholarship deadline is Friday, March 14, 2025.
