SC Humanities Welcomes New Communications Coordinator, Laura McGuinn

SC Humanities is pleased to welcome a new staff member. Laura McGuinn will be starting as Communications Coordinator on September 4. She will be coordinating social media, marketing, media relations, and brand awareness for South Carolina Humanities with the goal of increasing individual and community understanding of our organization’s work in South Carolina’s cultural landscape.

Laura McGuinn recently graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with an M.A. in Business Design and Arts Leadership. As a graduate student, Laura hosted a podcast about Columbia arts and culture called Columbia Calls. While earning a B.A. in Art History and French at the University of South Carolina, Laura worked for Piccolo Spoleto, Tapp’s Art Center, and the Point of View Film Festival.

Executive Director of SC Humanities, Randy Akers, said: “We are excited that Laura will be able to help us more effectively communicate our programs and initiatives to wider audiences, including those who are most comfortable using various platforms of social media.”

The mission of SC Humanities is to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of all South Carolinians. Established in 1973, this 501(c) 3 organization is governed by a volunteer 19-member Board of Directors comprised of community leaders from throughout the state. It presents and/or supports literary initiatives, lectures, exhibits, festivals, publications, oral history projects, videos and other humanities-based experiences that directly or indirectly reach more than 250,000 citizens annually.
