Sigal Music Museum – Distinguished Lecture Series

From November 2024 – May 2025, the Sigal Music Museum will present 6 lectures in their Distinguished Lecture Series to accompany their new exhibit A Measure of Music: STEAM and the Musical Mind, which highlights the intersections of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and music. The series will start on November 10 with a presentation by Michelle Moog-Koussa on “Bob Moog’s Legacy of Inspiration.” SC Humanities supported the speaking series with a Mini Grant.

A Measure of Music: S.T.E.A.M. and the Musical Mind uses a wide range of historical instruments, interactive displays, and visual representations to illustrate numerous thought-provoking concepts underlying the musical arts. For this exhibition, the second floor of the museum is transformed into an exploration zone where an array of music-related principles will be demonstrated. Visitors will leave the museum with an assortment of new musical experiences that will provide a greater appreciation and understanding of the world of sound.

The Distinguished Lecture Series will kick off with “Bob Moog’s Legacy of Inspiration,” presented by Moog’s daughter Michelle Moog-Koussa, on Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Her presentation will trace synthesizer pioneer Bob Moog’s life and career, examining pivotal junctures that led to the Moog synthesizer revolutionizing the face of music; this historical and personal journey will draw on family archives and musical examples to inspire the audience. The free event takes place at the Sigal Music Museum (516 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601).
