The Denmark Story Goes on Tour

As part of their centennial celebration, Anderson University commissioned and presented an original play about the life of Annie Dove Denmark, president of Anderson College from 1928 – 1953. The Denmark Story was originally staged at Anderson University in September 2010 and will go on tour in January 2011 to Greenville and Columbia.  SC Humanities supported this project through a Major Grant in February 2010.

Annie Dove Denmark was the first female president of a college or university in South Carolina and is notable for her strong leadership and for bringing Anderson College through the economic crisis of the Great Depression.

The Denmark Story will be staged at Furman University in the Playhouse on January 15, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. and at First Baptist Church of Anderson in the sanctuary on January 16, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Both performances are free and open to the public. Additionally, the play will be performed at the South Carolina Baptist Convention and at Columbia College in Columbia on January 24, 2011.
