The Archaeological Society of South Carolina will present their Annual Fall Field Day program on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Santee State Park in Orangeburg County. The event will include demonstrations on archeological techniques, historical re-enactments, lectures and more and is promoted as an event for the whole family. SC Humanities supported this event with a Mini Grant in September 2012.
This is the 25th Annual Fall Field Day offered by the Archaeological Society of South Carolina. The Field Day takes place in a different venue each year, and other recent hosts have been Lynches River County Park in Florence County (2011), Charles Towne Landing State Historic Park in Charleston (2010), Walnut Grove Plantation in Spartanburg County (2009), and Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site in Summerville (2008).
The 2012 event will include primitive and historic technology demonstrations, such as fire making techniques, pottery making, and spear throwing with an atl-atl. Other activities will include a lantern tour, a tour of the Santee Mount, barbeque, and more.
