2024 York County LibraryCon

York County Library will present their annual LibraryCon event on Saturday, May 18, 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. The LibraryCon is a celebration of comic books, manga, science fiction, fantasy, and cosplaying. SC Humanities supported this event with a Mini Grant.

The LibraryCon is a family-friendly pop culture and comic convention. The 2024 featured authors are Brendan Reichs, Ashley Belote, Brandon Reese, and Alicia D. Williams. There will also be games, cosplay contests, crafts, a scavenger hunt, panels, food trucks, and more. The Liberty Book Company will have books for sale.

Featured authors:

Brendan Reichs is the coauthor of The Darkdeep and the six-volume Virals series, as well as the author of the instant New York Times bestseller Nemesis and its sequels Genesis and Chrysalis. He is also a member of the Executive Board for the YALLFEST and YALLWEST literary festivals and has received an MFA in creative writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. He lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife, son, daughter, and a herd of animals that tear up everything.

Ashley Belote is the author-illustrator of Witch & WombatThe Me Tree, and Listen Up, Louella. She also illustrated picture books like Frankenslime and Valenslime. Ashley studied traditional animation under the direction of Don Bluth. She also serves as the regional illustrator coordinator for the Carolinas chapter of SCBWI.

Brandon Reese lives in North Carolina and is the author/illustrator of several picture books. “Oothar the Blue” was his first juvenile fiction picture book, followed by “Cave Dada” and “Cave Dada Picky Eater.” He has also illustrated album covers and picture books for Grammy Award winning musicians – The Okee Dokee Brothers.

A Charlotte resident, Alicia D. Williams is the award-winning author of “Genesis Begins Again,” which received the Newbery and Kirkus Prize honors, a William C. Morris finalist, and won the Coretta Scott King–John Steptoe Award for New Talent. Her newest title “Mid Air” will release April 2024!
