Art History Lecture Series in Spartanburg

Converse University will present an art history lecture series featuring art historians from other South Carolina universities with programs in the Fall of 2023 and the Spring of 2024. The lectures will cover a diverse range of modern and contemporary artistic practices. SC Humanities supported this program with a Mini Grant.

Art history is one of the disciplines that bridges the arts and the humanities; it “looks at works of art not just as objects, but as a way of understanding the world, and the societies in which they were created.” One of the goals of Converse’s art history lecture series is to build stronger connections among art history programs in South Carolina; another is to bring high quality scholarship to Converse students and promote the visibility of art historical research to the wider Spartanburg community.
