Beaufort Human Library

The Pat Conroy Literary Center in partnersip with the Beaufort County Library will present the “Beaufort Human Library” event on Sunday, April 3, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The events “books” will be Beaufort community members from diverse backgrounds and experiences available to be “checked out” for conversations with participants. SC Humanities supported this program with a Mini Grant.

The “Beaufort Human Library” will kick off National Library Week activities in Beaufort. In addition to the Pat Conroy Literary Center and the Beaufort County Library, other partners inlcude Beaufort High School’s Diversity Awareness Youth Literacy Organization and community volunteers.

The “human library” program is designed to foster empathy and invite greater understanding of hte many human stories to be found and shared in our communities. Like the adage “you can’t judge a book by its cover,” the “Beaufort Human Library” is an opportunity to listen to a person from the community and hear a story that may change your ideas about unexplored stereotypes.
