The Blythewood Historical Society & Museum will host a Grand Opening of the second phase of their new museum design. The event will be held at the Langford-Nord House, 100 McNulty Street in Blythewood on Sunday, October 4th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. SC Humanities helped support the museum redesign with a Major Grant.
The Grand Opening will include a short welcome and introduction outside and then small groups will be allowed inside to tour the new exhibits. Social distancing and masks are required. The event is free and open to the public and will include refreshments.
The second phase of the museum redesign included the creation of exhibits covering topics of Blythewood history, such as commerce, historic buildings, religion, politics, transportation, women, and farming. The third phase will work on renovating the outside of the structure to how it looked in 1904.
In addition to SC Humanities, other project sponsors include Assess Preservation and Richland County.
In addition to the Grand Opening, the Blythewood Historical Society and Museum will host a traveling exhibit from the USC Lancaster Native American Studies Center that will be on display on Sunday, October 11; Sunday, October 18; and Sunday, October 25 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Share a Little of That Human Touch: The Prehistory of South Carolina is a cutting-edge exhibit on Native American history in South Carolina that showcases the findings from the Johannes Kolb Archaeology and Education Project as well as other important sites in South Carolina such as Topper and the Fig Island Shell Ring.
