Centre Stage – South Carolina will host its 6th annual New Play Festival on September 8 – 13, 2008. Public readings of five plays will be given and scholar-facilitated talkback sessions will follow each performance. The festival is free and open to the public. SC Humanities sponsored the program through a Mini Grant in August 2008.
The New Play Festival accepts submissions of scripts throughout the year. Four finalists were selected to be presented for the 2008 New Play Festival: The Legacy by Adam Siegel, Right Place, Right Time by Lia Romero, Bastard Dynasty by Barry Dantzscher, and One Foot in the Gravy by Howard Kingkade. The festival will close with a presentation of Letters to Sala, a historic Holocaust-themed play by Centre Stage-South Carolina's playwright-in-residence, Arlene Hutton. Interactive discussions of the plays will follow each reading.
One of the four finalists will be selected to be fully produced by Centre Stage-South Carolina during the coming production season. For more information about the New Play Festival or the schedule of events, please see the Centre Stage Web site.
