The University of South Carolina Aiken will present the Palmetto Connections Symposium on Saturday, November 3, 2012 on the campus in Aiken. The theme of the symposium is “A Land Called Chicora: Representation and Immigration in South Carolina,” and the event will include a keynote speaker, scholar panels, and audience participation. SC Humanities supported this event with a Mini Grant in September 2012.
Dr. Peter Wood will deliver the keynote lecture on “The Election of 1864: The Most Significant Election in American History.” Dr. Wood is a Professor Emeritus of History at Duke University and will address themes of migration, race, and politics through his lecture. Other programs will include a luncheon, a variety of paper presentations, and time for discussion and interaction. It is anticipated that this program will turn into an annual event.
