Spartanburg Soaring

Spartanburg Soaring is a community-wide initiative presented by the Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg that will include a variety of public events, including a written poetry competition, a kite festival, a scavenger hunt, and a special day-long poetry event, among other opportunities.  Events will take place in March, April, and May. SC Humanities supported the poetry events with a Major Grant in February 2014.

Spartanburg Soaring’s mission is to build civic pride, engage cultural curiosity, and promote active play, using kites and Spartanburg Soaring as a common theme.

A written poetry competition took place in February 2014, and the winning poems are being incorporated into a unique cultural scavenger hunt that will take place in downtown Spartanburg from  March 29 – May 2014. A booklet of clues for the scavenger hunt can be picked up at the Chapman Cultural Center. Additionally, winning poems will also be featured on “Poetry Saturday” on April 26, 2014. Readings and poetry workshops will take place from 1:00 – 4:00, and a poetry slam will take place from 6 – 9:00 p.m. For more information, visit: http://www.chapmanculturalcenter.org/Spartanburg-Soaring.php.
