David G. Hodges has been an insurance agent since 1977 at MassMutual Financial Group and continues to work full time in the life insurance industry. He is a collector of books about South Carolina or books written by South Carolinians and used to own a used and rare book store, The Book Place, in Columbia. He is a graduate of Dreher High School (Class of 1971) and the University of South Carolina (Class of 1975).
He is active in community affairs by serving on local and state charitable boards including The Cooperative Ministry Board, The University South Caroliniana Society Executive Council, USC African-American Studies Partnership Board, St. Andrews Society, and First Presbyterian Church. He is a former board member of the Central Carolina Community Foundation, State Museum Foundation, Richland Library Foundation, and Riverbanks Zoo Society Board.
David resides in Columbia and is married to his wife Susan Graybill Hodges who he shares four children and nine grandchildren, all of whom live in Columbia. He joined the SC Humanities Board in 2018 as a Gubernatorial Appointee and currently serves on the Executive Committee and Resource Committee.
