Story to Stage Oral History Summer Camp

The Culture and Heritage Museums of York County will pilot an interesting new summer camp for middle school students in July 2010. "Story to Stage" will allow students to study community history, understand oral history traditions, and create a staged presentation based on their research. The camp will be held from July 26 – 30, 2010 and will run from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. daily at the McCelvey Center in York. SC Humanities supported this camp through a Mini Grant in January 2010.

"Story to Stage" is geared to increase middle school students' awareness of and interest in history and heritage preservation through the oral tradition. Participants will learn a variety of related skills, including how to collect unwritten histories and then convert those stories into a script and finally a stage performance. The fee for the camp is $50 per student for the entire week.
