To Space and Back to York County

The Museum of York County will present the planetarium show To Space & Back from June 6 – October 1, 2014. The show examines how items and technologies originally developed for the space program have become part of our everyday lives. The museum will place a special emphasis on these “spinoffs” that have a local connection, such as PBI fiber and the Black & Decker cordless drill, which both have York County connections. The planetarium show will also be available to every visiting school group in the 2014-2015 academic year. SC Humanities supported this project with a Mini Grant in April 2014.

To Space and Back examines NASA by-products, called spinoffs, that are used in our daily lives. Each planetarium show will be introduced by a live, facilitated talk that links the show to York County history and culture. A small exhibit of spinoff items will also be available for visitors to view. Museum historian Michael Scoggins will also give a special presentation on June 14, 2014.
