The 41st Annual Children’s Literature Association Conference will take place in Columbia, SC from June 18 – 21, 2014. Hosted by the University of South Carolina, the conference is themed “Diverging Diversities” and will include panels, a lecture by author/illustrator Anita Lobel, a Diversity Committee plenary session on children’s literature as big business, a night at the movies highlighting USC’s film archive, and more. The US-China Children’s Literature Symposium will take place following the Literature Association Conference on June 22-24, 2014. SC Humanities supported the lecture by Anita Lobel with a Mini Grant in 2013.
The 41st Annual Children’s Literature Association Conference will feature over 100 panels on such diverse topics as “The Power of Story,” “Reading Race in Serial Fiction,” and “Wrestling with Identity in Historical Fiction.” The conference requires registration: http://www.chlaconference.org/registration.
“A Midsummer’s Eve with Anita Lobel” will be free and open to the public and takes place on Friday, June 20th, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Richland Library Main in the Lucy Hampton Bostick Auditorium. Anita Lobel is an award-winning illustrator of children’s books, including On Market Street, which won a Caldecott Honor.
