From Sun-Up to Sun-Down: The Enslaved at Brattonsville – Virtual Program

In 1843, 139 enslaved people lived on the Bratton plantation. Our historic interpreters will explore the contributions they made to the Carolina Piedmont in general and the Bratton plantation specifically. Find out how the cotton crop shaped daily life, take a visual tour of the plantation house from the perspective of the enslaved, and find out more about the highly-skilled enslaved blacksmith and seamstress who lived there, too. We are also excited to present an interview with our Historic Preservationist, who will discuss our current projects to preserve the enslaved spaces at Historic Brattonsville.

Historic Brattonsville and Museum of York County summer programs are presented through Zoom Webinars. To register for CHM summer programs, make a donation or learn more details, go to CHM’s website: http://chmuseums.org/summer-programs/.

Historic Brattonsville: Time Travel Tuesdays are at 10:30 a.m.

Culture & Heritage Museums’ virtual summer programs are made possible through funding from a Bridge Grant from South Carolina Humanities, www.schumanities.org. Funding for the Bridge Grants has been provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan.
