2020 Virtual Southern Guitar Festival

On Friday, June 12, the Southern Guitar Festival will present two lecture-demonstrations by internationally recognized artists. SC Humanities supported this project with a Mini Grant.

The Southern Guitar Festival and Competition is an annual event that brings world-caliber guitarists to Columbia, South Carolina. The mission is to inspire and educate all music lovers.  In 2020, the event will be virtual. It is open to the public; tickets are required for the virtual events.

A presentation by the MM Guitar Duo will be offered at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, June 12. The MM Guitar Duo consists of Maja Radovanlija and Milena Petković.

From 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM, there will be a lecture & Q&A on the topic of “Balkan music elements in guitar repertoire (emphasis on works by Dušan Bogdanović)” by Maja Radovanlija. The lecture will examine composer Dušan Bogdanović’s the synthesis of the Western classical tradition (Baroque music elements) and Balkan traditional music.
