The Kaminski House Museum will host their annual “Family Fun and Literacy Day” on Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The afternoon event will feature storytelling, fun crafts for the fall, and treats. SC Humanities supported these programs with a Growth Grant. Funding for the Growth Grants has been provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
The Kaminski House Museum has offered a fall Family Fun and Literary Day since 2016. Like previous years, the 2022 event will feature fun activities promoting literacy and community. There will be colorful paper crafts in the Hispanic tradition, Egbe Kilimanjaro African Drumming group, a venriloquist, a poetry reading, and mariachi performance. A variety of Hispanic foods would be prepared by Delia’s Kitchen and Gullahlicious bread prepared by Ron Daise will also be a part of the food offerings at this event. In previous years, partners passed out over 200 books to children and their families.
“Family Fun & Literacy Day is one of our favorite events of the year,” commented Kim Leatherwood, deputy director at the Kaminski House Museum. “This event promotes families stepping away from their phones and other devices to spend some quality time together. We focus on the importance of developing effective reading skills at every stage in life. Each child at this event will leave with a free book and we do request that all children be accompanied with a parent or responsible adult.”
